A wooden temple with fine details. The real beauties are the 10th 11th century statues rescued from the nearby lake - the Chakreshwar talao. These are kept in the compound for the public to appreciate, an inclusive cultural gesture. Adjacent is another, more modern temple, housing yet more rescued sculptures. Our guides were extremely knowledgeable about the provenance of these sculptures, which kept our group fully engaged. The ruins of an older temple can be seen under a tarpaulin in the lane between the two temples.
Brahma Murti, Chakreshwar temple, Nalasopara, Mumbai,...
Brahma Murti, Chakreshwar temple, Nalasopara, Mumbai, Maharashtra. This Brahma idol was recovered from Chakreshwar talav and placed in the premises of Chakreshwar temple. As the idol is locked, I had to take pictures in parts. This idol is three faced and the 4th face is missing. Four faces of Brahma represents that bramha has created the world in all dimensions. Beard (usually white) represents the maturity and experience required to create the universe. The idol in full form. Starting from the bottom left hand and going in clockwise direction, we can see Padma (Lotus) , Ledle (used mostly to serve offerings in Yajna), Book (mostly Vedas) and Kamandalam. You can see Swan which is the carrier of Brahma. Also, you can see Ganas (association of people formed to attain the same aim, can also be called tribal people where God used to reside) in the same picture, near the legs of Brahma. You can see Toe Ring in his toe finger, which is also carved and Kadaa(an ornament) in both of his legs.
